Description
Black and white aerial view of the Chestnut Hill West branch of the former Pennsylvania Railroad. The rear yards of the houses on the west side of Pelham Road are visible at the right. This branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad opened in 1884; the railroad ties lying loose on the tracks indicates that enough time has elapsed since the railroad was completed to necessitate the replacement of some of the ties, thereby suggesting that this photo dates to approximate 1900 or shortly thereafter. The siding serving the Pelham Steam Plant is visible in the foreground.
