Page 42a-d includes three newspaper clippings. The newspapers are unknown; article 42b is dated 1918. No other dates are known.
The first article [42a] is a small clipping, with a photo of Alexander Balfour, of 233 East Penn Street, chief yoeman in the Fourth Naval District, who "died of pneumonia Monday. He was the son of the late Robert A. Balfour."
The second clipping [42b] bears the headline "Letters From Soldiers: Word from Roger Taylor." The letter from Mr. Taylor notes: "Well, we have been up to the front at Verdun in this big push the Allies are making toward victory, and we are at what is supposed to be a rest camp, not much rest though, as this is Sunday and we had to stand formation three times. We did our work at Fromerville at the front, pitching a hospital and caring for 5000 wounded and sick. We had to work day and night with shells bursting around us at the start of the drive. Not far from us a big shell hit a tree and broke it right in two." Etc. Taylor was enlisted at the 318th Field Hospital, 305th Sanitary Train, American E. F.
The third and final article [42c] announces "Here of Rescues Slain in Dugout: Lansdale Man Had Two Ambulances Blown Away by Shells" etc. the article details that blast: "Recovering from shell shock suffered in one engagement, Private Arthur T. Cannon, of Lansdale, went back to the front to be killed in his dugout by a German shell. Word of his death has just been received by his parents," etc.
