Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 55
Photograph a is a photograph of the altar and reredos of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, located in the 5400 block of Germantown Avenue. Most prominent in the foreground of the photograph is the Gothic-style, ornate rood screen separating the main body of the church from the chancel. Also in the foreground is a partial view of pews. Two steps lead up into the chancel and a carpet is visible in front of the steps leading up to the altar. Behind the altar is a centrally placed cross and tall candlesticks on either side of the cross. On the wall behind the altar , in relief, are stone(?) figures on either side of a crucified Christ . Projecting prominently above the rood screen is a large cross. Behind the cross is the apse, composed of a semi-circle with a domed roof. Various "frescos" are seen on the upper apse walls. Below these "frescos' are three arched windows which are only partially visible. Arched side windows are also visible. Elaborate wooden benches facing the main aisle are visible behind the rood screen in the chancel.Photograph Details
