Description

Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 82. A single newspaper article is attached to this page, from an unknown newspaper, with the headline "Chas. L. Beatty, Artisan Hero." The article, along with a photograph of Charles L. Beatty, notes "The following was read in an impressive manner by Deputy Harry C. Smith, P. M. E. M. A. at the Memorial Service of Germantown Assembly in September. It was written while lying ill in bed by T. Frank Kendrick, P. M. E. M. A., who had been asked by Master Kendig to speak at the services." The article continues with excerpts from the memorial service: "'Charles was a member of the old Third Regiment, N. G. P., and went to the Mexican border with Pershing. His time expired while there, and after the boys came home his name was continued on the reserve list. When our beloved country felt that its patience was exhausted, when it felt that the Huns had broken all laws o decency and morality, that liberty itself was at stake and that the Teutons were unfit to continue to exist and we therefore declared war, Charles Beatty was among the first to be sent to Camp Hancock.'" Pages are 7.5 x 10".
