Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 15. Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Christopher Ludwick Farmhouse, located on Haines Street, east of Chew Street (see catalog number 2010.394.3.1-2). A caption in the scrapbook accompanying the photograph indicates that Christopher Ludwick was Baker -General of the American Revolution and that the house was moved to a new site nearby. This photograph shoes a side view of the house which is a stone two story house. In the foreground is an outbuilding with the main house "beyond" the attached outbuilding. A fence encloses a "yard" adjacent to the outbuilding with an open gate leading to the driveway entrance. A street lamp is shown immediately outside of the fence. Haines Street is shown in the foreground as unpaved and numerous mature trees in full leaf border the street and surround the farmhouse. A utility pole is visible among the trees in the center of the photograph. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph b: [bottom] is a another view of the Christopher Ludwick Farmhouse apparently taken from the opposite end of the house as the view in photograph 15A. In this photograph, most of the trees lining the street and surruonding the house are gone. The utility pole noted in the above photograph (15A) is still visible. The outbuilding is also visible to the right in this photograph. The side wall view shows that wall to be covered with stucco, rather than with stone as in photograph 15a. This photograph shows a prominent view of the front of the three story house (now apparently all covered in stucco) with a stone chimney protruding above the roof line to the right. The third story shows a window from the side view. The main entrance has a pediment over the front door and the pavement in front of the house is lined with brick. A picket fence runs across the front of the side yard in the left hand side of the photograph. A one story "shed" is visible in the rear of the house and some trees are still visible in the rear of the house, the tops of the trees showing above the roof line. Original photograph year 1904.
