Description

Silk collar with silk scrim, silk floss, and gold floss. Silk scrim embroidered with figures on it- apparently unfinished collar. Two fish and three other designs. Orange, red-orange, peach, aqua, blue, gold. Human figures, flowers, butterflies embroidered. Asia? China? With "Steel, Anglefield, South Godstone."

See Sophie Steel textiles. Donor Anson Peckham was nephew of Sophie Steel. Steel (1870-1958) was born in Bethlehem, PA but grew up in Germantown. She later lived in England and France and was a student of Howard Pyle. She illustrated "Historic Dress in America."
