Description

Silk collar with silk scrim, embroidery floss, and gold floss. Unfinished collar; embroidery on scrim, not yet cut off scrim/ bound. Mauve background; floral and geometric designs in blue, peach, marigold, yellow-green, white. U-shaped collar with scrolled ends. One green embroidery is separate. Asia? China?

See Sophie Steel textiles. Donor Anson Peckham was nephew of Sophie Steel. Steel (1870-1958) was born in Bethlehem, PA but grew up in Germantown. She later lived in England and France and was a student of Howard Pyle. She illustrated "Historic Dress in America."
