Chair cover, cross point, wool on canvas (cotton or linen), in several shades of blue, in browns, gray, gray-green, tan. Pattern seems to be rows of fan shapes, alternated to form diagonal rows as well. Bargello needlework. Associated tag: "Sophie B. Steel, Tapley's, Chiddingford."

See Sophie Steel textiles. Donor Anson Peckham was nephew of Sophie Steel. Steel (1870-1958) was born in Bethlehem, PA but grew up in Germantown. She later lived in England and France and was a student of Howard Pyle. She illustrated "Historic Dress in America."
