Never to late to mend by Holmes I'm sorry I madee you cry I told you so When dreams can come true Oh promise me A fool there was Someday I'll wander back again March, 1920; August 28th - We go down at 6.25. It is drizzling when we left home. We catch the last boat. We get good seats in the last car and on the dry side but its cool and soon I change seats to the window. I get hungry and begin to eat sandwiches. We are held up just outside Atlantic but get in about 1.30. I get R to take off her shoes and try the water. R&L both go down and say the water is warm. Get a good bathing suit for .75. I take her to the beach and stay out to near 12. Walk along boardwalk. Go back to Woolworth to get buckets and shovels. Edgewater on Virginia Ave but fail to find films so walk back. Daddy makes a big hole with the shovel so big that R puts a milk bottle in it. We start up early for train but no one made up and we wait for 5.25 to 5.55. We got four seats together. L&R go to sleep soon after we start for home and I sleep all the way to Camden. We walk on and see some iron fencing, what I think we will do for our fences. We walk to Rittenhouse. L&R get some honeysuckle. We sit down in park and wat some crackers. Sit on bench across from the spring play fishing. I get some roses while we wait for a car. There is some trouble with them. Came home and played with kitten. I brought kitten down to the kitchen table and drink milk. I told her when I came up kitty is gone. L&R began to cry for a bout 10mins. I ask them what the trouble is and they say Daddy I dont want you to get rid of kitty - mother told you she would not keep it anyway. L - I know but I want it for a little while. Do you want to go into the alley and get it. L - no but I will if you will go. I go down and call kitty and take it up and the crying stops. May 15, 20; We ride down to Clarissa and Hunting P Ave and I start for tickets. R comes running after me and I send her back to mother. I buy admission 75 x .50 for (2.50). We walk through the menagerie to the maint tent and give some of the elephants a few pieces of chocolates and then we climb up on the bleachers which are quite a distance apart and we do not care to go too high on account of the children. We sit there from 1.30 to 2.20 befoer the show starts. The audience is asked to move up and make room for the extra crowd. They bring hay for people to sit on in the outer track. (ACCIDENTLY SKIPPED PGS 190 & 191) 3/11/20 In the paper tonight Alfred Quigley is held up and put in a closet by a robber at the point of a pistol Al told me some ten days later that his wife was away and he came home about 7 o'clock and went back and fixed the kitchen range he heard a [ ] and [ ] of same upstairs and when he went up to investigate he was surprise by having a revolver pressed against his ribs and searched and [ ] of 3.75 The thief said he wanted more Al said he had no more. [ ] all back up he put him in a closet Al then took $75 in a wallet from his hip pocket and slipped it down his drawers in case he (the thief) should return and re search or blackjack him. The thief had pushed a bed in front of the closet and then searched the house. Took all the silver and a new overcoat that Al just paid $60 for and other stuff that he put in a bag. He missed some Liberty Bonds that he had laying between music. 4/11/20 Al Quigley told me the man that help him up was caught and he was down City Hall to identify him. A restaurant keeper caught him at 9th & Race he had recognized him some weeks ago in a saloon in the neighborhood and in the toilet accused him of theft. He said he robbed him & his wife in the restaurant of eleven hundred dollars that they had saved to buy some property the man drew a revolver and [ ] to shoot him (and as second one.) if he broached the subject outside he had already gotten a special policeman and when they went out the special said he did not think he had enough evidence but he took him to a magistrate. Magistrate accoused the restaurnateur of going to movies and would probably turn out that this was the wrong man although he identified the gold watch the man had on and the silver one he tried to sell and the stick pin. The magistrate said it was not sufficient evidence although the bartender said the man spent $800 in the one evening in the saloon, he let him go. But Thursday the Restaurnateur saw his man (Emil Brode a [ ]) and threw his arms around him and called for a police.
