Label: David James Dove was the first English master of the Germantown Academy. After leaving that position, he built this house and started another school next to Germantown Academy on School House Lane. It is the house still standing on the present Pennsylvania School for the Deaf campus. In 1793, the German master Frederick Herman occupied the house when George Washington stayed here. (11)
