Description

Blue "pineapple" gauze dress with small black broken stripe. Full skirt with trimming of narrow black velvet. Round waist. Decollete. Sleeves with three puffs of black velvet between.

Worn by Jane Wright, later Mrs. Joseph Warner Johnson, at the Inaugural Ball of President James Buchanan--March 4, 1857. The wine stain of the dress was occasioned by the jostling of the crown when Secretary Seward was drinking a toast to the young lady.
