Two photographs of buildings near Germantown Avenue and Collom Street, found on page 41 of scrabbook 2, "Pictorial Germantown Road and the Vicinity & Some of its Inhabitants. Compiled by George Clarence Johnson. Volume I. East Side."
Photograph b, at the top, is of 5137-39 Germantown Avenue at the southeast corner with Collom Street. It shows the Bochius house on the right and Henry Squire's drug store on the left. A note says it is part of property granted by Jan Streper to John Lensen in 1683, and deeded to William Biddis in 1731, that the house at 5139 was probably built in 1798 by Godfrey Dorfenille, that it was Edward Ashmead's drug store in 1828 and sold to Henry Squire in 1839.
Photograph c, at the bottom, is of the rear of buildings on East Collom Street (earlier Jefferson St. amd Brick Yard St.) One of the buildings is said to have been a barn of William Biddis used as American barracks in the Battle of Germantown, torn down in 1898.Photograph Details
