Photographs from Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 58
Photograph a: is a photograph of Grumblethorpe, located at 5267 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a three story stone home with a stuccoed front facade. The front of the house shows a portion of the house below the front windows as slighly extended beyond the stucco and possibly of a flat, smooth stone. In the immediate foreground is visible a small portion of a brick-paved Germantown Avenue and a brick-paved sidewalk in front of the house. The main entrance has an elaborate surround with a rounded arch supported by two columns. Above the door is a semi-circular glass transon. All first floor front windows as well as all of the side windows have paneled shutters; second story front windows have louvered shutters. Two dormer windows are built into the roof line. The front entrance is somewhat asymmetrical with three windows to the left of the main entrance and two windows to the right. Another stone building is visible in the very left of the photograph and a two door wooden gate is positioned between both structures
Photograph b is a view of the driveway into the Chew grounds at Cliveden, located at 6401 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a stone/brick paved driveway leading onto the grounds at Cliveden. In the foreground is a stone post and a portion of a stone wall that are built on either side of the driveway. In the background is partially visible Cliveden itself although a great number of trees eclipse most views of the house.
