Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 134.
A single newspaper clipping, from the Evening Public Ledger, undated, is glued to page 134. The headline associated with the article reads "Kitten 'Adopted' Soldier as Protector From Shells." It follows with the story: "German Pussy Spent Three Days on Yankee Truck Before It Was Gassed" and "Private Kent, Home From the Front, Praises Work of 304th Engineers." It continues with "How a German kitten rode for three days on a Philadelphia supply truck and never flinched under heavy shell fire was told today by Harry J. Kent, 605 East Haines street Germantown. Kent was attached to the 304th Engineer Train, a unit in the Liberty Division from Pennsylvania that distinguished itself in the Argonne. 'On the morning of the first drive that opened on September 28, a german kitten climbed onto my seat and refused to leave,' said the soldier. 'I liked the little thing, so I carried her along. For three days she stuck to me and was under shell fire most of the time. I don't know what happened to her, but imagine that she was gassed." The article includes a photo of Harry J. Kent.
