Provenance

Notes

Owner: Wistar Family Cap made by Mary L. Ellis for Anne W. Morris when the latter was a baby. Part of a group of articles donated in November 1967, including CW 4591-CW 4602. All were worn by Wistar family members of Germantown. "The Wood family tree...has included altogether fourteen respected men of medicine since the eighteenth century. The handing on of the name Horatio Curtis Wood has reached a sort of impasse in various branches; there now being a Dr. Horatio C. Wood Jr. (Pennsylvania '97), a Dr. Horatio C. Wood IV (Haverford '50) and a Mr. Curtis Wood (Yale '54)." (Source: The Perennial Philadelphians: The Anatomy of an American Aristocracy, page 109, By Nathaniel Burt)
