Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 139 Photograph: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows an interior view of the Episcopal Church of St. Martin in-the-Field located at 401 West Willow Grove Avenue (at the corner of West Willow Grove Avenue and St. Martin's Lane). The view shows a Gothic style church building with many arches supported by stone columns. An interesting feature are the "Romanesque" style windows located above the arches. The interior walls appear to be constructed of brick and the ceiling is finished with dark wood planking. Three tall stained glass windows are set into the back wall above the main altar. The center stained glass window is the tallest of the three. A brick mosaic pattern is embedded into the wall on either side of the stained glass windows. The floor appears to be of marble/stone and wooden pews have been installed to form a center aisle and side aisles. Within the sanctuary, wooden pews and kneelers face each other across a center aisle leading to the altar. A raised ornate pulpit is visible to the left within the sanctuary and an ornate light fixture is suspended from the ceiling within the sanctuary.
