Description

Leatherworking tool composed of long flat iron blade with ridged edge. Rounded dark wood handle with brass fitting on end. Marks: "C.S. OSBOURNE & CO." From "Dictionary of Leather-Working Tools c. 1700-1950" by R.A. Salaman, p. 275: "A flat, flexible steel blade, c. 15-16 inches long overall, tapering slightly towards the tip, which is serrated. They are used for stuffing flock into cart-saddle panels and for stuffing the cantle and certain other parts of a riding saddle; also for re-stuffing when required. The tool with the flexible blade bands sufficiently to follow the course of the saddle, and so avoids the risk of tearing or stretching the cover."
