The author was President of the Site and Relic Society of Germantown (now known as The Germantown Historical Society).
The first cardboard page, upon opening the box, indicates that the contents of the box are a temporary replacement for copy 1 (via a "post-it" note). Written in pencil on the actual cardboard is the following notation: "Jefferson's Germantown Letters, 2nd copy." Copy 1 has not to date (09/2014) been located, unless this notation refers to the Jenkins book (see reference below).
It should also be noted that this box initially contains numerous photographs and additional printed materials following "The Letters". Also found in the Library stacks at Je-1.1 (2014.28.401) is a book which only contains "Jefferson's Germantown Letters."
