Description
Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 30.
Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Johnson House located at 6306 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a three story stone house with two dormer windows built into the roof line. The view is of the front and side of the house. Germantown Avenue is visible in the foreground as brick paved with trolley tracks embedded into the brick. Utility poles and wiring are visible A brick pavement is slightly raised above Germantown Avenue. The main entrance is directly at street level with wooden side railings supported by two wooden posts on each side of the front door. Windows on only the first floor have shutters. An overhang runs along the front and side of the house with a triangular pediment above the front door. A portion of the rear of the house is visible. On the first floor side is what appears to be a glass enclosure directly below the overhang meant possibly to serve as a small "greenhouse". A wooden fence and gate close off what appears to be a driveway from Germantown Avenue. Several mature trees surround the property, and a fire hydrant is visible in the bottom right hand corner of the photograph. Original photograph year 1904.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of the "Ship House" located at 6338 Germantown Avenue (see catalog number 2010.186.29). The photograph shows a single wide structure probably stucco covered with three dormer windows built into the third story roof line. The main entrance is somewhat "hidden" by a "large" overhang partially covered with latticework. Windows on both the first and second stories have shutters. Above the second story side window is affixed a "medallion" of a ship. A wooden fence is visible to the left beside the house. At the far right, attached to the Ship House (yet "separate" from it) is another three story structure. A brick paved Germantown Avenue is visible in the foreground with trolley tracks embedded ino the brick. Also visible at street level is a sewer outlet. Original photograph year 1904.
