Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 28. Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Keyser House located at 6205 Germantown Avenue (the photograph caption refers to it as the Keyser-Channon-Prichett House). According to Historic Germantown (Tinkom and Simon) this house remained in the Keyser family until 1945 and was demolished in 1950. This photograph shows the Keyser House in the center. Other houses are seen to both the left and right of the Keyser House. The Keyser House is three stories, built of stone with at least two dormer windows on the third floor and an overhang running the width of the building over the first floor windows. The front entrance is positioned in the middle of the facade and is eleavated from the street with a series of steps with a railing leading up to the front entrance. The steps run perpendicular to Germantown Avenue. To the left of the house is a small vacant parcel of ground with a stone wall and steps topped with a metal fence. The space separating the Keyser House and the next house (to the right) shows an "inverted" arch wooden fence The photograph shows mature trees along Germantown Avenue and a growth of ivy on the side of the Keyser House. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of a portion of the 6200 block of Germantown Avenue running south of the Keyser House. Visible in the extreme left of this photograph is the "inverted" arch gate separating the Keyser House from the next property (above in 28a). This photograph shows a distant view of the Keyser House and the next property located at 6207 Germantown Avenue and two additional properties south of that address. Germantown Avenue is visible in the foreground as brick paved. The building to the extreme right in this photograph is two stories, most likely stucco covered with an awning protruding over the entire first floor. Lettering is clearly visible in the right window advertising "Oysters". A young man is sitting to the left of the store entrance. To the left of the store is a single building which appears to contain two stores/residences. This building is three stories with two dormer windows on the third floor. There are two separate entrances with series of steps running perpendicular to Germantown Avenue. To the right, at sidewalk level is an entrance over which a sign indicates "Painter". Above the left entrance is a sign protruding from the building indicating "Tailor". To the left of this building is a white fence extending to 6207 Germantown Avenue. The front and side of that house is visible. There is an empty space of land bwtween these buildings with a large tree visible. A utility pole with wires is visible at the top of this photograph. Original photograph year 1904.
