Madame Macheret ran a fashionable dressmaking business from the 1890s to 1904, located at 32 East 23rd Street in New York. Soutache braid is narrow flat decorative braid, a type of galloon, used in the trimming of drapery or clothing. In clothing soutache is used to conceal a seam. Often woven of metallic bullion thread, silk, or a blend of silk and wool. (Source: Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soutache)
