2013.13.1.151a-bDescription
Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 148.
Two newspaper clippings, both undated and from unidentified newspapers, are glued to page 148. The first clipping, 148a, at left, bears the headline "Wilson's Rare Chance Let Slip, Rabbi Says," and continues with "What Rabbi Krauskopf termed President Wilson's failure at the Peace Conference was compared by him to the success of great men like Washington, Lincoln, Cyrus Field, Fulton, Edison and Foch, in an address on 'Our Daily Chance' yesterday in Keneseth Israel. Doctor Krauskopf based his sermon on James M. Barrie's play, 'Dear Brutus,' in which a group of people lament their failures in life and wish for a 'second chance.' Their desire to live their lives over again is granted, but the same follies and sins that ruined their first chance of obtaining happines mar their second opportunity."
The second of the two clippings, 148b at right, exclaims "Lt. Richard P. Bell Back" and continues with "Lieutenant Richard P. Bell, 53 W. Chelten av., Germantown, is a patient at the Parkville Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was wounded three times by shrapnel, September 26, according to notice received by his uncle, Dr. James H. Classon, yesterday. He received wounds of the hip, thigh and leg at Montfaucon, while leading a unit of Company E. 314th Infantry... Lieutenant Bell is married, his wife being the former Miss Lydia Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Campbell, 1337 65th st., Oak Lane."
