Description
Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 19.
Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Colonel Wagner-Mechlin House, located at 4840 Germantown Avenue (see also catalog number 2012.6.230 and catalog number 2013.5.1.18a). The photograph shows a front and side view of the house as described in catalog number 2013.5.1.18a). This photograph (19a) is labeled as having been taken in 1910, rather than in 1904. This 1910 photograph shows the large tree in the front yard as being severely "trimmed" and only projecting to the top of the second story of the house. The large growth of ivy from the side of the house has been completely removed and only a small portion of ivy remains on the front of the house between the first and second story window lines.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of a tablet in the outer wall of Hood Cemetery, formerly the Lower Burial Ground at the corner of Germantown Avenue and East Logan Street (see catalog numbers 2012.6.4, 2010.6.142, 2010.6.143). The photograph shows a stone tablet embedded in the outer wall of Hood Cemetery. The tablet (an old tombstone?) is divided into two separate squares. The left most square contains the inscription "Memendo Mory" (Latin for "remember that you will die"); the rightmost square contains a bas-relief of a skull and cross-bones. Original photograph year 1904.
