Description

Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 158. Three newspaper clippings- all undated and from unidentified newspapers- are glued to page 158. The first, at top left, includes the headline "'Meet Us?' Plead Huns; 'Go To Hell!'- Hoover." The article continues with "Food Administrator Hooever, in Europe arranging relief for the peoples of the war-devastated territories, has refused in emphatic terms to discuss German food conditions with Baron von der Lancken and Doctor Rieth, who sought a meeting with the food administrator," etc. The second of the two articles, at upper right, bears the headline "Prayers for Victory" and continues with "An appeal has been sent out by the Rev. A. C. Dixon of London, for every church in England and America to pray for victory on April 6, the first anniversary of our entry into the war. That is very good, but it is going to take much more than heavenly supplication to put the finishing touches on Kaiserism. It is going to take guns and ammunition. It is going to take sacrifices. It is going to take every human endeavor that we can put forth before that great end is attained. Still prayer is helpful. Every famous war leader has at some time dropped to bended knee, but probably none of them ever appealed more to the point than the munition worker who wrote on a shell 'In God we trust, this shell with bust, And grind the Germans into dust.'" At the bottom right is "The Regal Casualty List" which includes those who were missing, wounded, or killed in action, and their associated countries/ dynasties. Pages are 7.5 x 10".
