Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 59
Photograph is a view of the Morris House (also know as the Perot- Morris-Deshler House), located at 5442 Germantown Avenue. The photograph was taken from a position behind the monument to Civil War veterans in Market Square and shows (in the foreground) a stone post topped by an orb, a metal railing behind a stone tablet and a cannon in front of the stone tablet. Across Germantown Avenue (brick-paved and embedded with trolley tracks) is the Morris House on the left. To the right of the Morris House is the Binghurst House, 5448 Germantown Avenue. The Morris House is a three story stone structure with a main entrance with an elaborate surround topped by an arched pediment. Two railings anchor steps leading up to the front door. Two dormer windows are built into the roof line. A prominent feature in the photograph is an automobile parked on Germantown Avenue in front of the Morris House. While no documentation exists, given the automobile appearance, the estimated date of the photograph is 1915-1920.Photograph Details
