Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 25, page 40
Please see notes for additional information.
Page 40 contains two photographs with captions.
Photograph a [top] shows a group of four men (standing next to each other). Three are in shirt sleeves and one is wearing a vest with a watch chain visible. The man with the vest is also displaying a rather long white beard. Three are wearing straw "boater" hats, while the fourth man is wearing another style hat. They are standing on an open lawn area with buildings and a tree line in the distance. All are holding in their hands what appear to be small "bowling" balls (most likely used for lawn bowling). The caption reads: Then the "Old Timers" lined up - Bart Comegys was one of the number, but he could not stand up with "Honest John" and Wilson Woods, to say nothing of Josephus Roberts and P. A. Nilson.
Photograph b [bottom] shows a man dressed in a suit, wearing a hat (and with a cigar in his mouth) seated with his back against a tree trunk, facing away from the camera and loooking down at the ground. To his left is what appears to be a cigar box resting on a light colored rectangular object (a piece of wood and/or a towel?) The caption reads: But here is Comegys, asleep at the switch. He took the precaution to have plenty of cigars at hand.Photograph Details
