Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 25, page 52 Please see notes for additional information. Page 52 contains two photographs with captions. Photograph a [top] shows two men standing in a grassy field with a tree line and vegetation behind them. Both men are in shirtsleeves (with the sleeves rolled-up), with the man on the left wearing a cap, and the man on the right hatless. The man on the left is standing and observing; the man on the right appears in position ready to "pitch" a horseshoe. The caption reads: While Carver pitched a few and missed his train to Paoli. Photograph b [bottom] shows two men (both hatless) and in shirtsleeves. The man in front is in position and appears ready to "pitch" a horseshoe. The man behind him is standing and observing. Both men are standing in front of a low stone wall behind which is a three story stone building which appears to be old and perhaps in need of some repair. Ivy appears to be growing over most of the back wall of the building. On the side wall of the building is visible a small triangular "overhang" at the roof line which projects outward. Underneath this is what appears to be a clock face embedded in the wall. In the far background are vegetation and mature trees. The caption reads: Bill Emhardt, Esq. proved that he still knew how to do the trick, to the satisfaction of Joe Wagner.
