Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 7, page 4 Please see notes for additional information. Page 4 shows a photograph on the grounds at Manheim (Germantown Cricket Club) with indivdiuals dressed in period clothing. In this photograph, two woman on the right are seen facing the pohotographer. They are dressed in full length dresses, wearing bonnets tied under the chin and carrying purses outfitted with a drawstring. To the right and slightly behind the two woman is a gentlemen dressed in formal wear, carrying gloves in his left hand and wearing a top heat. In the center of the photograph is a table upon which rests an open box. Various unidentified objects are also seen on the table. On the ground are two small throw rugs placed in front of and behind the table. Behind the table is a chair over which is draped a blanket and a shawl. To the left in this photograph are a group of mostly young men (and it appears, one female) dressed in colonial dress (tri-corner hats, frock coats, knee britches, leg stockings). Most are holding a ball in their right hand, as if preparing to throw. This "throwing" activity seems to be taking place in a corner enclosure. In front of the grouping of young men (and one female) is a stucco wall surmounted by a small fence and joined to two brick pillars at either end of the wall. In the background are various mature trees and vegetation.
