Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 7, page 7
Please see notes for additional information.
Page 7 shows a photograph on the grounds at Manheim (Germantown Cricket Club). This photograph shows what appears to be a small building with a stone facade, although a close inspection of the photograph shows the facade to be a faux painting of a stone facade with painted windows. Over the front door is an overhang supported by two columns. To the left of the front door has been placed a potted plant. On the ground on the side of the building is a sign lettered as "Beggars Town" - a reference to an old section of Germantown. To the right of this building is a large hedge in front of which have been placed several drop-leaf tables. Behind the hedge is partially visible a Cricket Club building with a brick chimney protruding above the roof line which is topped by a cupola. The second floor of this building would seem to have an open porch with a railing. The contour of the roof (which is only partially visible) would seem to suggest the building is "roundish" in shape. To the left in the photograph are seen two men conversing. Behind them is a portion of a white wall.
It should be noted in the photograph that all of the tables and the small building have tags affixed. This may suggest that the objects were for sale as part of the Fete effort to raise money for the support of Germantown Hospital.Photograph Details
