Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 7, page 73 Please see notes for additional information. Page 73 shows a photograph on the grounds at Manheim (Germantown Cricket Club) of a man and a woman dressed in period costume. The man is dressed in what would appear to be the regalia of an English officer. He is wearing an ornamental head covering which is peaked and embroidered with a strip of fabirc across the top. His jacket is formal with "tails". It is also ornamented with strips of fabric. A ruffled shirt front protrudes from the front of the jacket and from his sleeves. His pants are knee length. He is wearing white stockings and shoes with buckles. Epaulets adorn the shoulders of his jacket and he is prominently wearing a sword on his left side. He is facing a woman dressed in a full length period dress with lace sleeves from the elbows to her wrists. The bodice of her dress is a light colored material which sweeps up over her shoulders in a V shape. She is wearing a bonnet festooned with flowers and a floral print fabric with which she had tied the bonnet under her chin. She is also carrying a basket filled with what appear to be flowers. This man and woman are standing on a brick path in a graden area. Two brick columns adorned with globes are seen in the background. In the distance are flowers, vegetation, trees and the vague outline of a building roof line.
