Description
Photographs from Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 43
Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the original building of Germantown Academy, located at West School House Lane and Greene Street. In the foreground is a metal "hairpin" fence in front of the property. This fence is intersected by a set of steps leading up to a path to the main entrance. There are four additional steps leading from the path to the front entrance. The building is constructed of stone and topped by a belltower atop which sits a weathervane. It appears that a small "step" is located on the roof adjacent to the belltower (in which a bell is visivble) possibly to allow access to the bell (?). On either side of this building are other stone buildings. The windows on the first floor are shuttered and the shutters are closed. Four basement windows (two on either side of the front entrance) are visible just above ground level. Original photograph year 1903-1924.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a "card" on which are printed a ball, a crown and a weathervane emblazoned with the year 1760. Underneath these images are the words: "Ball, Crown snd Weathervane, Germantown Academy, 1760-1911. Original photograph year 1903-1924.
