Description

Urban Archives Exhibit Ex111 Label: Carriage makers often built and repaired horse drawn vehicles. It was common for them to keep horses for hire as well. Some of these businesses converted automobile garages and service stations as the automobile began to replace the horse. This photograph grom the 1890s shows "The Palace" which was one of many livery stables in Germantown. The building stood on the northeast corner of Greene and Duval streets. Eventually it was converted to a service station for cars.
