Label: In 1927 the George Allen Store opened on the corner of Chelten Avenue and Green Street in Germantown. The store first opened in center city Philadelphia in 1837. The Germantown store had three stories, a basement, and boasted 24 different departments. The store sold small furniture, clothing, toys, glass, china and many other things.
These photographs show the exterior of Allen's and some of their promotional activities. The store was a fixture in Germantown and sponsored the Santa and Christmas parade for the community.
