Description

Placed quilt, unfinished, in the log cabin pattern. Quilt fragments are tow rows of pieced design, in what appears to be the "courthouse step" variation or repeating diamond variation of the log cabin pattern. Materials are satin, woven and raised patterns, and silks. Colors of the quilt pieces are brown, black, blue, red, yellow, green, red/rose- in solid, print, stripe, plain designs. Quilt has light tacking stitches holding the pieces together. The backing of the quilt is a pale pink glazed cotton material. Quilt was found inside a box in the costume museum with the numbers #1721 and #781 written on the outside of the box. There was also a piece of paper in the box which had "Mrs. Alexander Coxe Prince through Miss Frances Wister 1955".
