Description

Photographs from Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 41 Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the rear of a three story building. The scrapbook photograph caption does not identify the building, but only notes that it was demolished between January-February, 1943. A low "hairpin" fence is visible in the foreground. The house is on a narrow lot with trees visible in the photograph. To the left in the photograph is another building. An overhang is visible on the first floor. Two dormer windows are built into the third story roof line, with two brick chimneys visible protruding above the roof line. A high fence/wall is visible along the right side of the photograph separating the property. Original photograph year 1903-1924. Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of a Watch Box at Ivy Lodge, located at 29 East Penn Street (see catalog number 2010.102.1-3). The photograph shows a hexagonal (?) shaped wooden structure known as a Watch Box. A "peaked" roof topped with a type of cupola with glass panes is also visible. What appears to be a wooden ladder is attached to the side of the structure on the right - apparently to ascend to the top and light the latern secured inside the "cupola". At the front is a door secured by two metal hinges. Although the original photograph years are listed as 1903-1924, the photograph caption indicates the photograph was taken circa 1895.
