"2nd Annual Report of the Industrial Home for Colored Women, presented at the meeting of the board of directors and managers held October 3, 1905." The Industrial Home was located at 30 [East] Armat Street, Germantown. Soft covers, 6 pp including front and back cover. Staples used for binding. 6.25 x 9.25".
The annual report assumes a rather narrative style, with the content beginning with statistics associated with the Industrial Home. These include the "number of colored women visiting the Home" during the past year [2098], the numbered investigated and registered [1028], the number supplied with a day's work [583], the number supplied with permanent places [333], the number of lodgers [210], the number of boarders [168], the number of householders supplied with servants [601], and the number supplied with servants [583].
The report laments the lack of space and facilities, noting that "The Matron, Mrs. Cordelia A. Atwell, to whose intelligence and energy the success of the Home is largely owing, says in her report to the Managers: 'We are greatly handicapped by room. Nine rooms, the capacity of the present house [at 30 East Armat Street], are inadequate to carry on the benefactions we have undertaken. A sitting room and a sewing room are greatly needed, in addition to the one room which we have now for all purposes, besides a storage room for trunks, the latter being a source of revenue. For several months, through lack of accommodation, lodgings have been refused to those applying for them."
The report then continues by presenting receipts and expenses, as well as contributions and donations made to the Industrial Home the previous year.
