Description

Report of the Florence Crittenton Home for the Reformation of Women, of 139 Queen Street, Germantown [area streets were renumbered and some renamed circa 1895, with 138 being the old address of 139 Queen Street- Lane]. Bound with two staples. Soft covers, in brochure/ booklet format, 8 pp., unpaginated. Dimensions: 5.25 x 7.25". Technically not an annual report per se, the publication documents the merger of two organizations, "The Union of Two Charitable Organizations" by noting "'Florence Crittenton Home,' of 531 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, and the 'Germantown Door of Hope,' 139 Queen Street, Germantown, to be known as the Florence Crittenton Home, of Philadelphia, 139 Queen Street, Germantown, affiliated with the National Florence Crittenton Homes. The Board of Managers of the Door of Hope will retain their positions with the exception of Treasurer's office. Mr. Mahlon N. Kline, so many years Treasurer of the Florence Crittenton Home, will be the Treasurer of the joint Organization." A photo of the organization's chapel at 139 Queen Street [Lane] is included on the opposite page. The publication then notes "The proceeds from the sale of 531 Lombard Street will be used to pay off the mortgage on the property of 139 Queen Street, Germantown, the remainder to apply to the building of a third story, which will be used as a Maternity Ward and Nursery. Training School for Nurses and Nursery Maids will also be added. Also a laundry fully equipped... The accompanying cuts show the different rooms in our Home, as it was without the addition." A photo of the Home's dormitory is included. A brief closing to the publication is included, opposite of photograph of the Matron's Room at the Home on Queen Lane.
