Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 7.
Photograph a: [top] is of the Reverend John Rodney Home, at Germantown Avenue and Duval Street. The home is three stories faced with stucco (?). There is a small "porch" with two columns supporting a "half-moon" roof over the front entrance. The small "porch" also contains two facing benches. The windows on the first two stories are shuttered. In the front of the property (along Germantown Avenue) is a stone "retaining" wall bisected by steps leading down to Germantown Avenue. To the right of the house appears to be a ramp/driveway leading to a wooden gate. The third story front contains two dormer windows. Original photograph year 1859.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a front and side view of the Engle House at 5938 Germantown Avenue (see catalog number 2010.162.4). The house is a three story stone house with an "overhang" over the first story front. Three steps lead up from the pavement to the front entrance. To the left of the front entrance are two wooden (?) doors accessing a basement (?). There is a "pediment" running along the front and side of the house above the second story, extending to the top of the roof. Two dormer windows are evident on the third story front and two chimneys are visible on either end of the house. A trellis is shown along the side of the house and a two story building is visible on the left side at the rear of the house. An additional building is visible behind the house to the left. There is a fence running from the left of the house to the left end of the photograph. The fence is bisected by a "driveway" leading to the left side of the house. Other houses are visible to the right in the photograph. Germantown Avenue is seen in the foreground. Original photograph year 1859.
