Rittenhouse Mill DamEntry/Object ID
2001.002.00211.1-.4Description
Four identical photographs show a stretch of the Wissahickon . The water level is very low. The fence of Forbidden Drive is visible on the mid left side. This photo may show the Henry Rittenhouse Mill location below the Bluestone Bridge. Possibly showing the bend in Forbidden Drive on the right side. In the middle of the creek the low rocky rubble of the dam appears. Along the right side of the photo a trench is evident and might be the construction of the sanitary sewer that runs along the Wissahickon. Another possiblity is that it shows a mill race. Along the trench there are low flat topped arch structures that appear to be embedded in a low concrete or stone wall. Copies 1& 2 copies from glass negative W-20-J. Copies 3 & 4 from W-21-J.
