Mark: "C.S. OSBOURNE & CO." "ESTD 1826"
*Rein Rounding plates were used to form the strap used for reins in harnesses into a round shape. This particular iron rounding plate is identifiable by the graduated holes and corresponding numbers. Accoring to the "Dictionary of Leather-Working Tools c. 1700-1950," the reins would be wetted and pulled through the largest hole and then the next smallest hole until it has passed through all of the holes, and in hte process become compressed and rounded.
