Sampler is of a scene of a man and a woman, sitting in front of a house. Part of the linen backing is painted; the sky, ground and faces. The man is dressed in a green coat, yellow knee britches, and is wearing a black hat. He is playing an instrument, shaped like a clarinet. The instrument is gold. The woman, sitting beside him is wearing a gold color dress, style circa 1835, and wears a wide brim hat. Both of the faces and hands are painted. A large basket of flowers is located in the foreground next to them (on the left side). On the right side there are two sheep. The piece is very creative in the use of different types of thread and stitches. Silk and chennile threads are predominantly used, while satin, split, bullion, cross, couching, and chain stitches are used. Chennille of roses around the sides and top of the sampler.
