Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 34 Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the school house of St. Michael's Lutheran Church. The school house is located at 6669 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a small one story stone building covered with stucco or whitewash. There is a front door with one window to the left of the front door and two windows to the right of the front door. Also to the right of the front door is a wooden "rack" possibly holding books and/or newspapers. To the left of the school house in the photograph is a portion of a three story building whixh is part of the Church property. Utility poles and wires are visible in the photograph as ia a brick paved Germantown Avenue with trolley tracks embedded in the road. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of the Gorgas House, 6901 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a brick paved Germantown Avenue in the foreground, a raised brick sidewalk with mature trees in a small grassy strip at the edge of the sidewalk and a wooden utility pole and wires visible at the top of the photograph. A street lamp is visible in the center of the photograph on the sidewalk. The house is partially obscured by trees but does show a three story stone house with both an open front and side porch. The house extends into the rear of the property, and two chimneys are visible. A long picket fence extends across the length of the front of the proerty . In the far right of the photograph is visible a protion of another building, either an adjacent property or a building on the Gorgas property, or an extension of the Gorgas House. It is not possible to determine exactly the nature of this structure. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph c: [attached] is a photograph of the Gorgas House shown in a different season and at a slightly different angle. The trees have shed their leaves and the majority of the house is visible. The one distinguishing feature of this photograph from 2013.5.1.34b is that of a different street lamp. It appears that the base of the street lamp is the same in both photographs but that the actual top lamp portion is different in both photographs. Original photograph year 1904.
