Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 22. Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the School Lane Friends Meeting House. In the foreground, the photograph shows a small portion of the street (School Lane). Raised slightly above the street is a brick sidewalk. A waist-high stone wall is visible with the Meeting House somewhat behind the stone wall in the background (apparently the Meeting House is raised above the ground level since the floor level of the porch is visible right above the top of the stone wall). The Meeting House is a plain two story building probably covered in stucco with an overhang surrounding at least three sides of the building supported by wooden posts, creating an open porch on the first floor. The are two doors visible as well as shuttered windows. An "outbuilding" is visible to the left of the Meeting House (this outbuilding is open in the front). On the right side of the building the porch is partially enclosed in the rear. A chimney protrudes above the roof line on the right and the roof is of "seamed" metal. Various mature trees are visible throughout the property and a sign is posted on a tree in front of the Meeting House. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of the east side of Germantown Avenue, north of School Lane in 1904. In the foreground is visible the paved brick street with trolley rails embedded in the brick. A slightly raised sidewalk is visible with what appear to be a number of commercial business at least on the first floor of the buildings. A portion of a three story building is visible on the left with an awning over the first floor facade with a partial address of ..553. A woman pushing a baby stroller is visible on the sidewalk. A tree planted in the sidewalk is in bloom and provides a leafy covering for the second story of most of the buildings. A tall fence spans the opening of a vacant space between two buildings in the left side of the photograph. Most of the buildings in the photograph appear to have cloth awnings overhanging the first floor facades Original photograph year 1904.
