Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 32. Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Barsdley House (aka Sparrow Jack's House) on the left and the Daniel Billmeyer House on the right. The Bardsley House (6500 Germantown Avenue) is a smaller three story house with a stone front covered with stucco. The side appears to be of wooden clapboard. There is an overhang in the front of the house abve the first story. The roof is metal seamed. To the left of the Bardsley House is a an open-picket fence. A brick paved Germantowen Avenue is visible in the foreground with trolley tracks embedded in the brick. A fire hydrant is visible in front of the Bardsley House. To the right of the Bardsley House (separated by a lot and a high closed picket fence is the Daniel Billmeyer House (6504 Germantown Avenue). The Billmeyer House is a stone three story structure with two dormer windows built into the third story roof line. Also visible is a portion of the building extending from the building's rear. Trees are visible on the Billmeyer lot and utility poles and wires are visible in front of both houses running along Germantown Avenue. An additionla stone structure is partially visible ito the right separated from the Billmeyer House. Original photograph year 1904. Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of both houses as noted above with the caption that this photograph is of an older vintage. An obvious difference is the presence of snow in this photograph. Another major difference is that the Bardsley House is shown in more of its original state as a shop. The front window is extended beyond the facade and is larger. There is also a sign protruding beside the overhang. There is also a clearer side view of the house than in the photograph above (2013.5.1.32b). The Billmeyer House in this photograph shows little change from that in 2013.5.1.32b. Original photograph year 1904.
