Photographs from Scrapbook 1, Part 1, Page 50
Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of the Concord School House, located at 6313 Germantown Avenue. See also catalog numbers 2013.5.1.31 a and b. The photograph shows a side view of the School House. Germantown Avenue, brick-paved and embedded with trolley tracks is visible in the foreground. A sidewalk is also visible slightly raised above Germantown Avenue. A low stone wall and steps (with a railing) rise up to path level and entrance to the building. A plaque is affixed to the side of the building and a sign hangs from the front of the building. On the side of the building is an enclosure (the wooden door drawn back to show the opening) leading to the basement. A high stone wall runs parallel to Germantown Avenue behind the building . A stone "pillar" is visible on the right side to the right of the steps. A utilty pole, electrical wires and a street light are visible along the sidewalk. Many mature trees are sited throughout the property. On the extreme right are what appear to be a gate and driveway. Original photograph year 1903-1924.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of the Rodney House, located at 6347 Germantown Avenue (east corner of Germantown Avenue and Duval Street). The photograph shows a three story dwelling with what appears to be a stucco facade. In the foreground is visible a very small portion of Germantown Avenue and a sidewalk in front of the property. The property is faced by a stone wall. Steps intersect the wall and lead up to a path to the front entrance. All the windows on the first floor have white, solid shutters which are closed. The main entrance has a formal "arched surround" with a glass transom atop double doors. Windows on the second floor are dark, louvered and closed. Three dormer windows are built into the roof and the tops of these windows are rounded. Two brick chimneys protrude above the roof line. The right side view of the house shows vines/ivy growing from the base of the house up to the roof level. Also visible is an open porch enclosure at the rear. Some Outbuildings (?) are also visible in the back rear. To the left of the house (along Duval Street) additional row houses are visible. Original photograph year 1903-1924.Photograph Details
