Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 148 Photograph: This photograph (please see notes for captioning and other information) shows a view of the formal garden at Grumblethorpe located at 5267 Germantown Avenue. Grumblethorpe (the building) can be seen in the background (somewhat shrouded by trees and vegetation). In the foreground, Edwin Jellett reading on a bench in the garden. Formal paths, lined with boxwood are visible. The boxwood borders delineate separate garden beds. An arched trellis can be seen in the near background over the main path. A wooden picket fence is visible in the background (apparently separating the formal garden from the remaining grounds). The large tree nearest to the man on the bench appears to be covered in ivy, while the large trees in the background (closer to the main building) are barren of leaves.
