Photograph a: [top] is a photograph of The Monastery, located at the foot of Kitchen's Lane in Fairmount Park, accessbile from Wissahickon Avenue. The photograph shows a sloping lawn in the foreground with two mature trees. Behind the center tree is a three story stone building with an overhang running along the front and side of the house supported by a number of white columns. To the right of the main house is a one story stone building with a tall chimney protruding above the roof line and a door facing the front. On the right, along the sloping lawn is a stone fence. Windows on the first floor are floor-to-ceiling level. There is a large cornice running above the second and third story window levels which wraps around to the side of the house. Original photograph year 1903-1924.
Photograph b: [bottom] is a photograph of The Chestnut Hill Water Tower located in the 8200 block of Ardleigh St (at the southwest corner of Ardleigh and E. Southampton Sts.). The photograph shows the tower in the center surrounded by houses on either side. The tower itself is a large/tall cylindrical stone/brick (?)structure rising above the surrounding houses. At ground level is an arched doorway. Above the doorway rising up the tower wall are three circles which are enclosed. The tower is "topped" by a cylindrical structure clad with vertical wooden slats (?) . Two windows are visible in this uppermost portion of the tower. This uppermost part of the tower extends beyond the cylindrical base and is affixed to the tower base with supports running at intervals around the tower . The tower itself appears built on a somewhat flat piece of land. The photograph caption indicates the phiotograph was taken by C. Henry Kain.
