The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 103 contains a newspaper article, consisting of an illustration and two small columns of text. The article is entitled: "The Wissahickon Gateway". The article author is not identified. The gist of the article is a generalized protest against the proposed plans of a Landscape Gardener (named Miller) which included a "new entrance" to the Wissahickon which entailed blasting away rock, the thinning of foliage, the building of walls, terraces, flower beds, etc. In short, the article proposes that these plans would destroy the very beauty and natural/scenic wonders that make the Wissahickon unique. The article doubts that the Commissioners would approve such plans based upon costs and the destruction of the natural features. The top illustration is a rendering of how the Wissahickon might look after the "improvements".Collection
