Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon Page 110 contains handwritten notes from Jellett. (a) These notes are entitled "Scheetz Log-wood Mill". The notes indicate that the mill stood on the west side of the Wissahickon creek at the corner of the Wissahickon creek and Ridge Road. According to Fell, this mill chipped and ground log-wood for dyes. (b) These notes are entitled "Robeson's Sawmill Bancroft's Sawmill". The notes reflect Fell's recollection that this mill stood on the west side of the Wissahickon creek immediately above the Schuylkill River, with the canal boats able to bring logs up to it. Fell believes that the building now occupied by the Fishing Club was one of the buildings of this mill. (c) These notes are entitled "Vanderen's Mill, Robeson's Mill, Dobson's Mill". According to Fell, this mill was once Robeson's and then operated by James Dobson as a wollen mill. James Dobson had no business connection with his brother, John. While operating the mill, James Dobson dwelt in the Robeson Mansion (now occupied by William Lowa).
