The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 114 contains a photograph of a multi-arched stone bridge spanning the Wissahickon. This bridge was the successor to the "iron bridge" originally built by the Germantown and Norristown Railroad, Philadelphia's first railroad (see catalog number 2013.34.1.112a). The arched bridge ( c. 1870?) was built by the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad (successor to the Germantown and Norristown Railroad). The photograph shows the falls cascading in front of the bridge at the Wissahickon creek and Ridge Road (now Avenue, c. 2014). The photograph is rendered in sepia tones and has no date.Collection
